Float Control Valve or Float Valves are designed to maintain the liquid level in a tank or reservoir. It either throttles open on a lowering Water level and throttles closed upon a rising liquid level or can also maintain the level of water at a particular level if set.
Inside the toilet tank, an air-filled ball connected to a stem or rod that is in turn connected to the fill valve can be seen. When the flush is pressed, the float falls with the water level, the stem opens the fill valve and water starts pouring into the tank. The float rises with the water until a certain point when the stem forces the valve to close and the water stops. That’s a classic example of a float valve.
If the lid of the toilet is lifted while flushing the toilet and the ball float is supported so that it doesn’t fall, it can be seen that the water sprays out a little at first and then more and more as we let the ball fall farther into the tank. That’s the reverse of what happens when the tank is filling. The float stem is connected to a spring-loaded valve that wants to stay closed, but the force exerted by the arm when the ball drops open it. You can adjust the water level by adjusting the length of the arm, and you do this by screwing or unscrewing the ball. In some systems, a ball cock-style float valve or float switch is employed to keep a holding tank full. When the water in the tank falls below a preset value, the float arm actuates the pump in the well, which is connected by a length of wire. The pump operates until the float reaches the pump's cut-off point.
Inside a float valve, the ball float and float arm can easily be seen, but the actual float valve is hidden inside the valve housing and there are two types of mechanism in it, a slide valve or a diaphragm valve.
