The Holy Haram Expansion Project at Makkah in Saudi Arabia Makkah in Saudi Arabia is set to be the largest expansion of the Grand Mosque in its history of 4000 years. The project is aimed to enable pilgrims, Umrah performers and visitors of the Holy Palaces to perform their rituals and express their devotion in comfort and ease.
The project involves expansion of the Mataf to 20 meters wide into the Ottoman portico of the current Grand Mosque at the building’s all levels. The ground floor along with large parts of the adjacent areas of the building shall be used to accommodate a capacity of over 500,000 pilgrims per hour.
