Water meters are used to measure the volume of water used by residential and commercial buildings that are supplied with water by a public water supply system. HVAC Controls water meters usually use either Displacement or Velocity as a principle. Water meter is a device that measures how much water is being used. It is very similar to gas or electricity meter. The water supplier uses readings from the meter to calculate how much they should be charging for water and sewerage services. Users having a water meter will be paying the amount which depends on how much water they have used. These charges usually relate to the rateable value of the user's property. Some people regard water meters to be the fairest way to charge for water and sewerage services. Numerous countries are opting for water meters now and the number is slowly increasing.
Water meters are located either inside or outside of the property, if the meter is installed inside of the property, then users can find the main control valve on the waterline. If the meter is installed outside of the house then it will either be in a meter pit on the lawn or under the sidewalk, it should be in a box visibly marked if the meter is in a meter pit outside the house. A digital water meter is checked periodically as many factors like the environment, can affect the water meter. The style, purpose, and size will describe how the meter works. A domestic water meter can come in three different models – electromagnetic, mechanical insert and ultrasonic.
Electromagnetic meters use electrical voltage to figure out water usage. Magnetic fields and electrodes surround part of the pipe and when water enters through the pipeline, it creates an electric voltage. The electrodes can detect how much water is being generated and measure the voltage.
Mechanical insert meters are a more traditional type of meter. There is an impeller present in the meter which is a rotating device that rotates when water flows through it. The rotation is measured, but the water meter has to be full of water to get a correct reading.
An ultrasonic meter uses electronic sensors to measure the water velocity. After measuring the velocity, it will convert it to the flow rate. There are two transducers present on the pipe which calculates the velocity.
Typical applications would be Residential, Commercial and Industrial. These meters are capable of integrating with a central monitoring system.
