High Pressure Valves are used in an extensive range of industrial applications. Right from global oil production companies to aerospace manufacturing companies, high pressure valves are a staple choice.

The primary purpose of a high pressure valve is to maintain system pressures below a safe upper limit. Plus, they're utilised in practically every hydraulic system. But before you do so, here’s a quick guide to know all things essential about high-pressure valves. Continue to read till the end to find out more.

Operating A High Pressure Valve

Typically, electric or pneumatic power is used for operating these valves. With the help of an actuator that is bolted generally to the top of the valve, the needed power is delivered to the valve.

  • If pneumatic power is used then a pneumatic actuator accepts a pneumatic signal coming from a pressure pilot (compressed air or gas) and accordingly adjusts the valve.
  • If electric power is used then a Remote Terminal Unit or an Electric Pilot sends an electrical signal to an electric actuator. As per that signal, the actuator drives that valve to a matching level subsequently.
  • The use of electric actuation comes with two main benefits: automation capability and zero-emission operation.
  • Operation with zero emissions means during operation, there are no emissions released into the atmosphere since an electric actuator runs on electricity instead of natural gas. Whereas the automation capability means Electric actuators may send and receive position feedback, enabling users to monitor and control the valves remotely.

    Functions of High Pressure Valves

High pressure valves are able to perform a range of functions. These functions are categorised as per the type of valve employed in high-pressure technology systems where the high-pressure valves are installed. The following are a few of these categorised functions.

    Bypass Valves

    - These valves are responsible for opening the pressure line in the direction of the suction line. This allows start up of the pump without any pressure and then run on a pressure-free mode.

    Safety Valves

    - These valves are able to prevent an extreme increase in pressure as it opens when there is exceeding operating pressure. Then it closes efficiently with tight performance once the pressure is released.

    Overflow Valves

    - Enabled additional volume to flow out minus any pressure all the while maintaining operational pressure of the system.

    Consumer Shut-off Valves

    - When dealing with excessive pressure within the system, these valves allow turning on and off of consumer lines as needed.

    High Pressure Valve Application

These valves are known to be used in a wide range of applications in the Oil & Gas industry. Back pressure valves, dump valves, recirculation valves, suction controllers are all a few of the examples of High Pressure Valves.
