The Significance of Partial Discharge Monitoring
Insulated electrical assets such as transformers, underground cables, etc. often encounter failures or breakdowns and the most frequent cause of them is traced down to partial discharge (PD). Now, to prevent such malfunctions especially in insulated electrical equipment, the use of Cable Partial Discharge Monitoring System is preferred.
Dutco Tennant LLC is supplying a high performance Cable Monitoring System from the renowned brand BlueBOX Technology. This partial discharge monitoring system will also be exhibited in this year’s MEE (Middle East Energy) event 2022. Commencing from 7th March ’22 to 9th March ’22, the three-day long event will witness industry’s global leaders including our esteemed partner BlueBOX Technology.
Before you head to the event and explore BlueBOX’s product demo, make sure to update your knowledge about partial discharge and everything related to it.
Partial Discharge
The gap between two electrodes is filled by the electrical discharge and when the discharge fails to bridge that gap then the occurrence is termed as Partial Discharge (PD). This is a common occurrence in any power system.
However, it typically happens over components that can withstand its impact such as switchgear. Remember, the buzzing sound that you can hear from an overhead power line is a partial discharge event.
But the contemporary cable and cable accessories are unable to withstand the PD occurrence. Frequent PD events can gradually erode the insulating material which may eventually lead to failure in the electrical asset.
Causes of Partial Discharge
A number of causes can give rise to partial discharge in insulated electrical equipment. Some of them are –
· A majority of PD happens when the voltage of the cable system overpowers the PD site’s voltage turn on.
· The PD occurrence continues till the voltage comes down below the PD site’s turn off.
· Power cable systems’ surge can result in momentarily cable voltage exceeding PDIV. This can lead to intense PD activity and eroding of cable and its accessories.
Cable Partial Discharge Monitoring System
The Cable Partial Discharge Monitoring System is especially designed to detect the potential PD failures and keep the equipment protected. The online PD tracking enables the experts to keep an eye on critical power failures.
BlueBOX Technology brings in high-end Online Partial Discharge Monitoring System that can safeguard the potential failures of insulated electrical equipment.
