Media filters are devices that are used mainly for treating water and to remove the suspended solids from water. In most of the cases, it is considered to be the final stage of the pretreatment of water to remove all the un-dissolved impurities before the treatment with the help of Ion Exchange or by using reverse osmosis. With a variety of masses, media is mainly used during backwashing, the lightest media has the largest particle which will naturally stratify at the top of the filter while the intermediate-sized media can settle down in the middle and having the smallest particles, the heaviest media will be settling in the bottom.
