One of the most essential components in a firefighting system is a fire valve. The valves installed in the system help in controlling, directing, reducing, increasing the flow of a fluid by the suitable adjustment of varied passageways.

Dutco Tennant LLC supplies a vast range of fire products coming from the industry leading brands. Meide Group is one of those high-end brands that specializes in fluid industry valves and fittings. With over 60 years run in the industry, the quality-oriented enterprise offers different types of fire valves such as gate valve, check valve, firefighting butterfly valve in UAE.

In this year’s Intersec 2022 Dubai, Meide Group is also taking part as the expert representatives from the group will be at the exhibit stall from 16th January 2022. Make sure to check out their live demo by registering for the three-day Intersec 2022 event.

Continue to read till the end to know more about fire valves and which type of valve is the right fit for your firefighting system.

Check Valves

A check valve can be defined as a device that enables the flow of fluid in only one direction. It comes typically with two ports, one noted as the inlet and the other as the output. Because of their one-directional flow, check valves are also referred to as “non return valves” or “one-way valves”.

If you want to prevent any backflow within the system then the use of a check valve is the ideal choice.

Working Mechanism of Check Valves

If your firefighting system utilizes municipal water sources then chances are the drinking water gets contaminated. As the water from the fire sprinkler pipe or fire hydrant may reverse flow causing the contamination.

The check valves when installed, prevents this flow and keeps the water source perfect. Some of the check valves also come with hinged clappers along with a spring which enables the valve to be shut until water from the source opens it. The clapper only functions in one direction avoiding the flow from reversing.

Gate Valves

A Gate Valve which is also known as a Sluice Valve that is popularly used in many firefighting systems. It is a bi-directional isolation valve that opens up when a round or rectangular gate is lifted in the path of the flow.

In gate valves, when the opening is completely lifted it creates no obstruction in the flow path resulting in causing extremely low friction loss. In a firefighting system, gate valves are essentially used as control valves.

Working Mechanism of Gate Valves

Gate Valves work manually with the help of multi-turn valves and they are mainly operated with a hand wheel. For a full cycle, each valve should be operated and then returned to its prior position.

Butterfly Valves

If you are looking for a lightweight and low-cost solution for control valves then Butterfly Valves are the ones to go for. They are essentially used for controlling flow in a firefighting sprinkler system.

Working Mechanism of Butterfly Valves

If the operator wants to stop the flow of water, then in a butterfly valve, an internal disc needs to be rotated. Upon turning the disc parallelly to the flow, the water can be freely passed through.
