Opening in the central reserve guardrail or barrier is required mainly as emergency gates and in case of road works as gates for redirecting the traffic to the alternate direction. Opening gates are also indispensable in front of tunnels for maintenance or emergency purposes. They can be used as work zone access. The BarrierGuard 800 opening gate is NCHRP-350 and CE certified. The BarrierGuard 800 Opening Gate is designed specifically as a maintenance and emergency gate with a standard length of approximately 44m. With the step shape, the connection to concrete barrier along with steel guardrails is ideal. For these connections, standard elements are required in variable lengths. The modular opening gate is assembled with standard sections with wheel units that are mounted inside. The outer ends which connect to the concrete barrier or guardrails are equipped with hinges. If you are in need, a third hinge can also be added in the middle for maximum use. The opening gate can be opened with safety or closed in just a few minutes by using only manual power. It is very simple, quick and safe. Both the gate pins are removed at the opening end and one at the hinging end. When the wheel units are deployed via the holes in the barrier top the pivoting part is lifted. When the barrier feet are cleared off the road surface, the gate is pushed simply in the desired direction. By removing all the four pins, you will be allowed to remove the gate section completely. No special tools or lifting equipment are required, for operating the gate. The step profile also allows for a controlled collision behaviour that results in very little damage to either the car or to the construction. For this reason, many Road Authorities actually prefer the Step profile geometry.
