Wind exposure, conductor tension, bundle geometry and operating temperature all influence the long-term condition of an overhead line. Effective protection begins by identifying the movement or loading at each location and selecting hardware for that specific duty.

Dutco Tennant LLC will present four PLP solutions at MEE Exhibition 2026: CUSHION-GRIP® Spacer Dampers, VORTX™ Vibration Dampers with Protector Rods, Spiral Vibration Dampers and THERMOLIGN® Dead-Ends. Together, these products address bundle movement, aeolian vibration, smaller-diameter cable protection and high-temperature conductor terminations.

Middle East Energy Dubai 2026 will take place from 1–3 September 2026 at Dubai World Trade Centre, UAE. The exhibition covers the complete power value chain, including generation, transmission, distribution, clean energy, energy storage, digitalisation and critical power.

Visitors can meet our team and explore the featured transmission protection products at Stall No. H5, D10.

One Overhead Line, Several Protection Duties

Aeolian vibration is a high-frequency, low-amplitude movement caused by wind passing across a conductor or cable. Repeated bending can contribute to fatigue near clamps, supports and other attachment points.

Bundled conductors may also experience relative movement between sub-conductors. High-temperature conductors introduce additional demands at dead-end assemblies. These conditions require different forms of protection.

Our exhibition range covers bundle spacing and damping, broad-frequency span protection, vibration control for smaller cables and secure high-temperature termination. This system-based view helps consultants establish where each product belongs before catalogue numbers and quantities are selected.

Keeping Bundled Conductors Controlled

CUSHION-GRIP® Spacer Dampers are designed for twin, tri, quad and hex conductor bundles. Their elastomer damping elements absorb energy while the frame maintains the required spacing between sub-conductors.

The elastomer-lined conductor clamps use a high-strength quarter-turn fastener. This provides consistent compression without depending on a site-applied bolt torque value.

Two design families support different project requirements. Type B is designed around IEC 61854 requirements, while Type C was developed for particularly demanding utility performance criteria.

Standard and high-temperature versions are available. When reviewing the options with customers, we consider conductor temperature alongside bundle geometry, conductor diameter and spacing. Laboratory qualification and project-specific requirements should also be assessed together instead of relying on bundle count alone.

Dissipating Energy Across a Wider Frequency Range

The VORTX™ Vibration Damper responds to aeolian vibration through an asymmetric Stockbridge configuration with large and small weights. This arrangement provides broad frequency coverage, allowing vibration energy to be dissipated across a range of natural span frequencies.

A contoured aluminium-alloy clamp distributes pressure over the cable surface. A galvanised steel messenger strand and ductile iron weights form the energy-dissipating assembly.

We encourage project teams to treat damper quantity and placement as engineering decisions. They depend on conductor or cable data, span length, tension, terrain and wind exposure. The recommended placement method uses laboratory and field research to establish suitable positions.

The range is stated to meet IEC 61897 and IEEE 664 requirements, with variants available for EHV applications up to 500 kV. These details support technical submittals, although a span-specific assessment remains essential.

Protecting Smaller Conductors, Shield Wires and OPGW

For cables up to 0.75 inches, or approximately 19 mm, the Spiral Vibration Damper provides a light, hand-installed approach.

Its helically formed PVC-based damping section fits loosely around the cable and disrupts the standing wave associated with aeolian vibration. A smaller gripping section holds the cable gently, avoiding concentrated clamping forces.

The unit can be used on bare conductors, shield wires and optical ground wire within the stated product limits. It is not placement-sensitive, provided it is installed away from other attachments. Standard or high-mass arrangements can be selected according to the application.

While the installation method is straightforward, we still review cable diameter, damper quantity and any nesting arrangement against the approved schedule. This is an important distinction when MEE Dubai electrical suppliers are compared mainly on installation simplicity.

Securing High-Temperature Conductor Terminations

Motion control is only one part of transmission protection. At a termination, the assembly must hold the conductor and manage heat without compromising connected hardware.

THERMOLIGN® Dead-Ends are designed for specified ACSS/AW, ACSS/TW and ACCR conductor applications. They have a continuous thermal rating of up to 250°C.

The multi-layer design provides holding strength and heat dissipation while limiting heat transfer to mating hardware and insulators. Installation does not require a compression press or dies.

The assembly includes structural reinforcing rods, dead-end components, a thimble clevis and an extension link. Our team helps customers check compatibility against the exact conductor construction, diameter and approved product table. This is especially important for conductor families with restricted approvals.

Turning Product Selection Into a Protection Plan

A reliable specification starts with a coordinated data set. We recommend recording conductor or cable type, outside diameter, bundle configuration, sub-conductor spacing, everyday tension, span length, line angle, operating temperature and anticipated wind exposure.

Attachment locations and nearby fittings also affect damper placement. Installation documents should record product identification, colour codes where applicable, fastener completion, damper location and dead-end component sequence.

These records establish a baseline for later inspections. They help maintenance teams distinguish an installation issue from wear that developed during service.

Lifecycle cost is influenced by this early discipline. A product that is easy to install can still underperform if its size, quantity or position is incorrect. Clear schedules, approved drawings and accessible inspection points can reduce rework and make future condition reviews more consistent.

What Visitors Can Explore at Our MEE Stall

Middle East Energy brings utilities, consultants, contractors, regulators, engineers and procurement professionals together to compare technologies across the energy sector. For visitors reviewing electrical products at MEE Dubai, the exhibition provides access to products and technical expertise in one location.

Among the Middle East Energy Dubai exhibitors, our display will offer a focused view of overhead-line protection. Visitors will be able to examine the different duties performed by spacer dampers, VORTX dampers, Protector Rods, spiral dampers and high-temperature dead-end assemblies.

Project teams can bring conductor schedules, bundle configurations, span information or specific vibration concerns to Stall No. H5, D10. We can discuss conductor compatibility, damper placement, operating temperature, installation procedures and inspection planning.

For teams evaluating power distribution solutions at Middle East Energy, this is an opportunity to consider how each component fits the complete line rather than reviewing products in isolation.

Visit Dutco Tennant LLC from 1–3 September 2026 at Dubai World Trade Centre, UAE. Our team looks forward to discussing how correctly selected transmission protection hardware can support dependable, long-term network performance.
