Dismantling joints play a significant role in determining the design and implementation of pipelines that includes valves, pumps and meters. These are double flanged fittings that accommodate needed longitudinal adjustment and can be locked at the demanded length with the tie bars supplied.

At Dutco Tennant LLC, we are set to exhibit our quality dismantling joints in WETEX 2022. The three day event will begin from 27th September 2022 and where Dutco Tennant will be at the Stall No. 6B 20.

But before you join us for the event, let’s take a look at the importance of dismantling joint usage. Continue to read till the end to find out all.

Purpose of Using Dismantling Joints

Dismantling joints play a critical decisive role in the design and layout of valves and pipelines. They come in handy during the installation and removal of pipe valves and sections. As the joints provide longitudinal adjustment, the precise insertion of a valve into the desired pipe section is made possible.

This adjustment also aids in the fitting of the valve right next to the dismantling joint and it can be set to the accurate length needed before being connected securely to flanges. The reverse sequence is used for dismantling, where the readjustment of the dismantling joint’s length gives rise to sufficient space to loosen and remove the valve.

In both scenarios, the dismantling joint assures rapid installation and removal, hence resulting in increased efficiency and lowering downtime and site operations. The procedure is the same as where pipe sections are fitted together. Some of the dismantling joints are also ideal for use without causing any restraint in the flexible pipelines.

Additionally, dismantling joints are also able to serve the purpose of filling gaps. For instance, where a pump installation is done in a permanent position it needs to be connected to a pipe that is protruding from a wall.

Basic Design Principle of Dismantling Joints

There may be numerous dismantling joint versions available suited for varied applications, the basic design principle of all are the same. They are -

  • Flange adaptor situated at one side of the dismantling joint. It is joined securely to the pump or valve using the flange.
  • The F-piece which is known as flanged spigot has a flange at the dismantling joint’s other end in order to connect in the other direction, and is also pushed into the flange adapter.
  • To install or remove valves with longitudinal adjustment of ± 25 mm max. These two components can be pushed upon one another so as the dismantling joint is able to be installed between the pipe sections or valve and pipeline.
  •  When there is tightening of the nuts, the gasket needs to be compressed between the central ring and the follower (end-ring) and pressed against the  F-piece’s pipe. The high-quality rubber made gasket makes sure that the system is leaktight always upon tightening of the nut.
  • For the subsequent restraining and flange connection, the threaded tie-rods are used based on the type of dismantling joints utilized. Simultaneously, they also aid in the transferring of force happening on one side of the dismantling joint to the other side.
